April 2023 Rescue Dog Update from woodgreen

Since the launch of Breakthrough in 2016, Breakthrough has been working with woodgreen to help support dogs in rescue as they work through behaviour modification programmes that aim to rehabilitate them and find them new homes.

Lady the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross

Loveable Lady was originally handed in after her owners struggled to cope with her lively behaviour. The friendly Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross didn’t adjust well to life in kennels, but she found a new home six weeks later. Sadly, it didn’t work out as Lady became reactive towards other dogs, and so she returned to us.

This social butterfly also had separation anxiety. She became super stressed when left on her own, and we noticed that she’d hurt her paws while in her kennel. Fortunately, one of our amazing fosterers volunteered to give this six-year-old sweetie a much-needed respite from kennels.

Lady’s fosterer has been building up the time spent alone to help her canine guest overcome her separation issues. We also changed her diet to Breakthrough mind to tail nutrition, which she has twice a day – and it’s gone down a treat! Lady looks forward to each meal and eats every piece of kibble – she can’t resist licking her bowl clean, too! On walks, Lady has Breakthrough as a treat to reward her good manners.

Since Lady began eating Breakthrough last September, we’re delighted to share that this adorable Staffie is noticeably calmer and her attention during training has much improved. Lady’s behaviour towards other dogs is also more positive and manageable. We’re over the moon at the pawsitive progress this delightful girl is making!
